Weld Line Predictions

The position of weld lines or meld lines is important, as they can be both areas of mechanical weakness within the part and may also be highly visible depending upon their severity.

The position of these weld lines can be predicted through use of a mould flow analysis and if necessary altered by running what-if scenarios such as changing the gating.

The images to the right show the formation of weld lines after each hole. The weld line developing after the larger hole is worse than than the smaller one.

Clamp Force Requirements

By analysing the pressure distribution developed within the cavity, mould flow simulations can also be used to estimate the clamp tonnage, or machine size required to mould the part. The pressure distribution can also help to determine whether a part has an optimised filling behaviour. Gating and runner systems can be modified accordingly.
